GRANT UPDATE
GRADD and Hartford Rentals, Inc. have partnered to obtain $621,940 in Kentucky Housing Corporation funding to construct five senior citizen duplexes in Hartford.  The new Brushy Creek Apartments will be built off KY Highway 1543 (Clay Street) and when complete will consist of 32 total rental units.
 
GRADD also helped secure a $20,000 grant to fund the Hancock County Repair Affair project.  This annual October event utilizes volunteer labor to assist approximately 20 county low-income homeowners make necessary repairs to their houses.
 
 
ConGRADDulations...to Webster County native Bob Hunter for receiving the 2008 U.S. Department of Commerce Silver Medal Award for providing regional economic recovery assistance to Mississippi's Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  Hunter serves as Economic Development Representative with the Economic Development Administration in Atlanta and works closely with the GRADD staff on numerous EDA grant and loan programs to assist local communities.
 
In 2009, join GRADD in making a New Year's Resolution to make our communities more environmentally friendly places to live. Try these simple tips to help you go green at home:
 
  * Sign up for paperless billing and pay bills electronically.
  * Send e-cards, invitations, etc. whenever possible.
  * Use fluorescent light bulbs.
  * Recycle household waste (aluminum cans, paper,
     newspaper, plastic, cardboard, Styrofoam, glass,
     e-waste, motor oil).
  * Install programmable thermostats.
