GRADD Honored Among
"Best Places to Work" GRADD
was ranked as one of the Top 25
"Best Places to Work in Kentucky"
for 2009 (in the small/medium company
category), by the Kentucky Society for
Human Resource Management and the
Kentucky Chamber of
Commerce. The ranking, based
upon
assessment of company employee policies and
procedures and the results of an internal employee
survey, was announced on April 21 at an
awards banquet at the Lexington Convention
Center. Be sure to check out our new
billboard advertisements on KY Highway 54 and
US Highway 60 East in Owensboro commemorating
this honor.

Shah Receives National
Recognition GRADD executive
director Jiten Shah was
recently recognized on the prestigious
"Federal 100" list of government
technology innovators by
Federal
Computer Week magazine for
his strong leadership on the ConnectGRADD
regional broadband initiative. Shah
received his award at a black-tie gala at the
Ritz-Carlton in McLean, Virginia on March
25. This is the 20th year for the
"Federal 100" list, which honors top
executives from government, industry, and academia
who have had the greatest impact upon the
government information systems community.

Summer Works Program
Launched Last month GRADD
received a $600,000 economic stimulus grant to
expand its workforce development offerings to
include a Summer Works youth employment
initiative. This program will place
approximately 170 individuals
between the ages of 16 and 24
with public and private employers across the
region. Summer Works aims to provide youth
with invaluable work experience, while also
stimulating the area economy.

Unifying for Our
Youth GRADD's
National Family Caregiver Support
Program is joining three
other local agencies -- the Alma
Randolph Charitable Foundation,
Ohio County Together We Care, and
Sunrise Children's Services -- to
provide needed clothing and services to children
in the Green River region. This new
group, "Unified
for Our Children," was announced at an
April 24 press conference and will seek to raise
funds and streamline services for low-income
children in our district.

Valuing Our
Volunteers GRADD's 7th annual
Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
was held at Owensboro's Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn on
April 22, to honor our many
dedicated volunteers from the Homeland
Security Corps, Citizen Corps, Family Caregiver,
and Long Term Care Ombudsman programs.

"Sweet 16" Program
Stresses Driver Safety On
April 14, the GRADD Highway Safety team
partnered with the Kentucky Office of Highway
Safety to present the region's first
"Sweet 16" program
to
students at Webster County High
School. Kentucky State Police
troopers taught new drivers about safe driving
habits and educated parents on their
responsibilities with the Graduated Driver
Licensing program. Students also tried
on drunk driving goggles, to simulate the
dangers of impaired driving.

Helping Area
Homeowners The
Green River Housing Corporation
recently received $997,791 for the
Neighborhood
Stabilization Program through the
Kentucky Department for Local Government.
Funds will be utilized to purchase foreclosed and
abandoned homes in Daviess,
Henderson, and Ohio
counties.

GRADD Celebrates AmeriCorps
Week with Major
Announcement

GRADD celebrated the third annual national
AmeriCorps Week (May 9-16) by announcing receipt
of a $75,850 stimulus grant to employ 6 new
Homeland Security Corps volunteers. As
a result, GRADD will now sponsor 42 full-time
AmeriCorps workers in Henderson, Daviess, Ohio,
McLean, Hancock, and Webster counties.
